Waiting is the Hardest Part

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part
Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part

The wise sage, Lord Sir Tom the Petty, was not wrong. Waiting is, indeed, the hardest part.

As followers of the Britta in Business blog likely already know, I’m currently in the process of building a new studio in south Fargo. As expected, our long winter has caused a bit of a delay in the construction. Pending any surprises (knocking on wood SO HARD right now), it looks like I'll be closing towards the later part of June.

With my annual summer trip planned for early July, I'm waiting to book any sessions in the new space until later in July.

While I was hoping to get in a little earlier, it does give me a couple of extra weeks to make plans for what life looks like in the new space. I've been a busy bee doing all the official business-y things to get ready, but also planning the design and feel of the new space, and I'm getting pretty darn excited to see it all put together.

Studio Things I’m currently psyched about:

Wallpaper in the bathroom!

It's the little things, you guys. I've always been a fan of a fun bathroom moment, and now I can make that experience happen in my new space! I've been gathering so, so many wallpaper samples to try to figure out the direction I want to go. Classy Art Deco? Midcentury Quirky? Full on bright and a teeny bit wacky? So many options (and decisions to make).

Coffee Bar

I've been excited about this one for a while, but now that I've picked out the cabinets and the countertops, it’s becoming more of a reality. I've been scouring the internet for the "perfect" sconces to go above this area, and trying to find an under-the-counter fridge that won't break the bank.

Sizeable Shooting Bays

One of the things I really knew I wanted in the new space was a natural light shooting bay and a traditional studio bay. This was the setup I had in the Moorhead studio and it worked super well. The new space will have the same concept but each space will be bigger and the area more divided.

Cyc Wall

A corner white sweep, like the one pictured, is what I envision for the new traditional studio space.

My dad and I built the big white sweep in my Moorhead studio from scratch. This time, I'm having the professionals install it in the traditional studio bay and I'm super, super excited not to be on my hand and knees sanding the darn thing. The new wall will have a corner which I was unable to do in my old space. This will allow so much more flexibility in this area and I'm so excited to start creating in the space!

All that Natural Light

When debating whether I wanted to invest in this particular condo shop, the idea of having a giant window paned overhead door won me over. With the door's south-facing direction and the three west-facing windows on the other side, there will be so much light flooding into the natural light section of the studio.

Honestly, I think all my plant babies suffering in my brick bunker of a house will be overjoyed to be in the new space too.

Update on Studio Borealis

In other news, the Studio Borealis concept is starting to take shape and I'll have several ways to share this amazing new space with my fellow Fargo photographers!

I'm looking at three tiers of availability: Hourly Rental, Monthly Subscription, and Annual Membership. I want to get a good sense of the space before I open it up, but hope to start booking the space in early autumn.

Are you interested in Annual Membership or Monthly Subscriptions? Get your name on the Studio Borealis Email list to be the first the know about any updates and membership opportunities.
