Oh, and summer...

June was yet another month in recent times that simultaneously flew by and felt like a decade. In a single month, we’ve witnessed our country burn with outrage, finally amplifying the voices that REALLY should have been heard much before this moment. At the same time, we’ve continued to watch hundreds of people die needlessly from a virus.

June 2020 was full of defiance and confusion, hate and so, so, much love.

Oh, and summer. June was the start of summer.

I had decided to take a break from posting every week as my work life started to ramp up, but with a break came a bit of laziness in capturing our everyday life. Some of that laziness also extended into editing these photos too, but yesterday I took a couple of hours to sift through the memories of June 2020.

With marathon editing came the realization that this summer looks so much different than summer of the past. Instead of heading to the neighborhood pool, we’ve opted for the charm of the backyard sprinkler. No music festivals? A backyard bbq with our “bubble” will do. Family time is a given these days, and my garden looks fabulous.

And in this topsy-turvy moment, I'm reminded again that the gift COVID-19 has given us is to appreciate the small things in life: downpours, good friends, lazy summer days, the love of family, visits to the country and all the natural charms of early summer.
