Kat + Michael

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve photographed a full wedding. As some of you may recall, a couple of years ago I decided that I needed to take a break from wedding photography as it was consuming those precious summer weekends and (dare I say it?) my dwindling late 30s energy.

Early last year, I received a note from Kat asking if I would be interested in photographing her wedding in April 2021. I had met Kat a couple of years ago when she hired me to photograph her parent’s anniversary party. I enjoyed Kat and her love of cats, so I thought: “You know what, yes. I think I’m ready to sneak out of wedding photography retirement just a little bit.”

So, I said yes.

Since her request, I have photographed a few small, informal “quarantine-style” weddings. But Kat’s wedding was the first formal wedding I’ve documented since 2018. And it was lovely. It was lovely to be around all the love and excitement of a wedding day. It was lovely to get to know Kat and Michael and all their people. It was lovely to finish up the day on the dance floor, dancing awkwardly but lovin’ every minute of it.

Am I out of wedding retirement? Sort of. I’ve decided to open up my heart (and my calendar) to a handful of couples who dig my vibe, march to the beat of their own drum, AND are planning off-season (and/or non-weekend) weddings.

Now, on to photos of Kat and Michael and their day at Sanctuary Event Center in downtown Fargo! It was a lovely day full of wonderful people, a fantastic ceremony, and a heart-filled celebration. The best kind of wedding.
