Foss Architecture + Interiors

Toward the end of 2022, a friend I hadn’t seen since high school inquired to see if I could photograph him and his coworkers at Foss Architecture and Interiors. I was delighted. It was not only amazing to connect with an old friend, but I’ve secretly been a fan of Foss Architecture.

Drive around Fargo and it’s likely you’ve seen many of Foss’ designs. They are one of the oldest firms to work in the area there is no doubt you’ve noticed a few of their few legacy buildings. Designs that stand out to me are the Federal Building in downtown Fargo, many of the more interestingly designed 1960s and 1970s churches through FM, the restoration of the Harvester Warehouse (home of the Plains Art Museum), and MSUM’s Comstock Memorial Union and Neumaier Hall (affectionally named the “Beer Can” when I was attending). Fun fact: they even designed my 1957 rambler.

Today, a new generation is making its mark on our community, and in the last few years, they completed many iconic projects, including the Concordia College Science Center. This is where I photographed the team’s headshots and a few brand story images for their website in early 2023.
