Well, friends, we are ending the year that was 2011. It’s been a crazy 12 months for this photographer – lots of big decisions have been made, epic journeys begun and creative goals accomplished. Okay, not so much that last item. In retrospect, my list of Eleven Creative Goals for 2011 may have been a bit too ambitious, especially considering the moves I was about to make. But, here they are anyway… the good, the bad, the accomplished and the failed goals of 2011:
One Launch my Etsy Store
Accomplished! Well, sort of… the store exists, so was therefore launched. However, it’s never had more than one tester item listed. You can check out the empty store here. Expect more action in 2012 :)
Two Shoot an Entire Wedding in Manual Mode
Fail. Although, it’s a sorta fail. In 2011, I ventured away from the beloved aperture priority mode more often and found myself connecting with my manual roots on a regular basis.

Three Make a Block Print
Accomplished! Last spring, I took a Plains Art Museum printmaking class (taught by Fargo printmaker extraordinaire John Volk) and made two very, very, very preschool elementary-looking wood block prints. I probably shouldn’t quit my day job as a photographer, but I did find it very satisfying.

I have no idea what I was thinking for the print on the left. And the right… well, I call it my Picasso inspired Owl. I think I have some practicing to do…
Four Shoot a Roll of Film
Fail. No excuse.
Five Sew a Dress I Will Actually Wear in Public
Fail. I sewed half a muslin dress… that’s it. I’m pretty sure that horrid thing will never make it out of my sewing nook.
Six Photograph Five People I have No Business Photographing.
Fail… although, this is another sorta fail. I did photograph the very beautiful Allison of the Bad Weather Burlesque. One out of five? I could’ve done worse.

Seven Exhibit my Work
Accomplished! This summer I exhibited my work along side my talented colleague/friend/coffee-buddy Ann Arbor Miller. The show, titled Parallels: A Curious Pairing of Photographs by Ann Arbor Miller and Britta Trygstad, was exhibited during the month of August at DK Custom Framing @ Gallery 14. Putting a show together was a wild and crazy ride – one that I’d love to do again and again.

Eight Write a Song
Fail. Despite having access to a million music writing apps my husband has downloaded for the iPad, I somehow could’t complete this goal.
Nine Make a Good Video with the Canon 5D Mark ii
Accomplished! Though, the verdict is still out on the “good” factor. Check out this video I made of our 2011 Winnipeg Folk Festival adventure.
Ten Participate in More Photo Adventures
Fail. Fail. Double fail. I actually participated in LESS photo adventures this year.
Eleven Make Better Pictures
I can honestly say that I think I did make better pictures this year. Then again, I had a whole lot of beautiful and interesting people to document… that never hurts :)

So, there you have it, my Eleven Creative Goals for 2011. Next Monday I’ll officially set my Twelve Creative Goals for 2012, so stay tuned.
